Our first week in Year 2
We had an amazing first week back where we learnt the expectations of year 2 and got to know each other and share our Flat Stanley projects.
Art
During our first week of Year 2, we explored the artist Quentin Blake and looked at a range of techniques he uses to create his art work. We then put these techniques into pratice by creating our own self-portraits. Can you guess who is who?
These will be displayed in the Link.
Our class' cairns
Worship
In our first class worship, we learnt all about a cairn and what it means to Idle C of E. We then designed our own class cairn that we take to every worship.
I have chosen this design as it represents our class and Idle's Christian values. -Archie G.
I have chosen this design because it shows courage- Lia.
I have chosen this design because it welcomes visitors- George.
History
In our history, we will be exploring Florence Nightingale and her impact on nursing in the past and today. During the first week, we discussed what we already knew about nursing and what we would see in hospitals today. We then immersed ourselves into being nurses and had a go at using some of the equipment and discussing new vocabularly.
Nurses help people who are sick- Jessica.
Equipment is new so that germs are not spread-Asees.
The thing that goes on your arm looks at your blood-Lia.
The hospitals are hygenic because people clean them and give new equipment-Archie M.
Florence Nightingale Immersion day
We had so much fun immersing ourselves into nursing in the past. We went to Scutari hospital and dressed up as nurses and porters. We acted out what nursing would have been like in the past and comparing this to nursing today. Once we got back to the classroom we created a human timeline of Florence's life and made lanterns to show Florence was the "Lady of the Lamp".
Reading
Author Visit-Jenny York
We welcomed the author Jenny York into Idle CE and she shared some of her old and new books. We explored her lastest release "Walk the plank". Jenny got all year 1 and 2 involved by acting out parts of the story. We had so much fun! Jenny York has even given us some books to put in our reading area!
