2L Autumn Term

Our first week in Year 2

We had an amazing first week back where we learnt the expectations of year 2 and got to know each other and share our Flat Stanley projects.

Art

During our first week of Year 2, we explored the artist Quentin Blake and looked at a range of techniques he uses to create his art work. We then put these techniques into pratice by creating our own self-portraits. Can you guess who is who?

These will be displayed in the Link.

This half term we have looked at our class artist 'Quentin Blake'. We looked at how we can use charcoal techniques, apply texture and make different expressions in our drawing. We used these drawings to tell a story. We then used all of our knowledge so far to make our own concertina book. Look at our art work:

Our class' cairns

Worship

In our first class worship, we learnt all about a cairn and what it means to Idle C of E. We then designed our own class cairn that we take to every worship.

I have chosen this design as it represents our class and Idle's Christian values. -Archie G.

I have chosen this design because it shows courage- Lia.

I have chosen this design because it welcomes visitors- George.

History

In our history, we will be exploring Florence Nightingale and her impact on nursing in the past and today. During the first week, we discussed what we already knew about nursing and what we would see in hospitals today. We then immersed ourselves into being nurses and had a go at using some of the equipment and discussing new vocabularly.

Nurses help people who are sick- Jessica.

Equipment is new so that germs are not spread-Asees.

The thing that goes on your arm looks at your blood-Lia.

The hospitals are hygenic because people clean them and give new equipment-Archie M.

Florence Nightingale Immersion day

We had so much fun immersing ourselves into nursing in the past. We went to Scutari hospital and dressed up as nurses and porters. We acted out what nursing would have been like in the past and comparing this to nursing today. Once we got back to the classroom we created a human timeline of Florence's life and made lanterns to show Florence was the "Lady of the Lamp".

PE

In PE, we have been doing Gymnastics and looked at the different techniques to complete a log, egg and teddy bear roll.

GB Athlete Visit

We were really lucky in school to welcome Antony Cotterill for a whole school circuit where each year group were sponsered to take part in the morning. The children had to take part in different exercises on the circuit in a certain amount of time. We then learnt more about our athlete in our worship time.

Reading

Author Visit-Jenny York

We welcomed the author Jenny York into Idle CE and she shared some of her old and new books. We explored her lastest release "Walk the plank". Jenny got all year 1 and 2 involved by acting out parts of the  story. We had so much fun!  Jenny York has even given us some books to put in our reading area!

PSHE

For Hello Yellow Day, 2L have been focusing on their mental wellbeing. We all joined in by wearing yellow to raise awareness. Our morning began with some relaxing dot to dot colouring and in the afternoon we reflected on things that make us happy while enjoying our favourite songs and continuing our activities.

Sitting with my mum on the sofa makes me happy. -Esme

Seeing Thackley Jrs makes me happy-Teddy

Going in the garden makes me happy.-Rayan

Learning in school makes me happy-Ezra

In Computing, we have been looking at information technology and how it helps us. We looked at the different strands how information technology and how we might show it when using technology.

Connect:

By using video chat-Lia

Be Active:

We all did a Danny Go to show how we can use technology to help us be active.

Get Creative:

You can use drawing apps or games to colour in pictures-Archie G

You can use paint on the computer-Lia

Give to others:

2G sent us a nice email to say how they have used IT to help them and we gave back by sending them a nice message back.

Be mindful:

We discussed as a class that we have to manage our time online  and not go on for too long.

Music

This half term year 2 have been looking at pulse, rhythm and pitch in music with Miss Halliday. We have distinguished the difference between pulse and rhythm and practised changing our pitch in our singing. We have enjoyed dancing and singing to 'Hey Friends', learned to say 'hello' in different languages in our song 'Hello' and composed our own rhythms and played glockenspiels to the song 'Music is in my Soul'. We learned to read musical notes when we played the glockenspiels and help our friends play the correct notes as we read them out for them to the beat of the music. We then learned what a 'Rhythm Grid' is and used this to compose our own rhythms. To do this we had to learn to hold our notes/claps for the beat of 1,2,3 and 4. It was very tricky at first but we soon got the hang of it and were then able to perform our compositions in front of our friends. This is some of our learning, thhat we have done this half term:
