6E Autumn Term

Maths

This term in Maths, we've been exploring place value, factors, prime numbers, and squared and cubed numbers. We've focused on strengthening our reasoning and problem-solving skills by tackling daily challenges and taking on an extra question designed to deepen our thinking. This week, we've started applying our problem-solving strategies to multiplication.

Reading

In Reading, we've been engaging with a variety of short fiction and non-fiction texts. We've explored new and interesting vocabulary, practised our retrieval skills, and used textual clues alongside our own experiences to make inferences. Additionally, we've worked on SAT-style questions, including 'find and copy', 'true or false', and sequencing tasks to sharpen our comprehension and exam technique.

Writing

In Writing, we've immersed ourselves in Skellig, a novel by David Almond, which inspired us to create a character description, a diary entry, and a persuasive advert. This week, in celebration of National Poetry Week, we've embraced Remembrance Poetry. We joined a live stream with poet Tomfoolery and used his poem as a stimulus for our own writing. We then performed our poems in class, sharing our ideas and developing our performance skills.

Science Educational visit

Year 6 had an exciting and educational day out at Tropical World in Leeds, where they took part in a Rainforest Workshop. The workshop gave pupils the chance to explore the unique features of rainforest habitats, learn about the animals that live there, and understand the importance of conservation.

As part of the visit, the children also enjoyed seeing a wide variety of animals—from butterflies and meerkats to snakes and tropical birds. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences, and everyone came away with new knowledge and plenty of enthusiasm!
