Children's mental health week

Year 5 have had a brilliant start to mental health week. On Monday, we had the amazing opportunity to see a magician during assembly! On Tuesday, we were invited to join a zoom call to learn all about S.E.LF. (senses, experiences, learning and feelings).

World Book Day

This half term, Year 5 had lots of exciting activities to take part in during world book day. They completed book reviews, watched a BBC Live session and read to some buddies in Year 2!

English

In English, Year 5 have started their new class novel, Holes by Louis Sachar!

Stanley Yelnats has bad luck (which is all because of his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather).

When Stanley's bad luck unfairly lands him in the juvenile detention centre Camp Green Lake (a very weird place that isn't green and doesn't have a lake), he and his campmates Zer, X-Ray, Armpit, Squid, Magnet and Zigzag are forced to dig holes in order to build character...

But what are they really digging for?

World War 2 Visitor

Year 5 had the exciting opportunity to spend the day with a World War 2 visitor! They had an excellent time handling historical objects, completing activities and taking part in a quiz.

Wider curriculum

Art

Our art project this term focuses on self portraits made from mixed media. To start this topic, we studied the work of Chila Kumari Singh Burman who likes to combine her Indian roots with popular culture. We used pictures and research to put together our own factfiles about her in our sketch books.

Geography

In Geography this half term, we have been looking at North America. We have focused on time zones, climate and we have also made comparisons between features of North America vs the UK.

Science

In science, Year 5 have been learning about properties of materials. They had the oppprtunity to build circuits to test whether different materials can conduct electricity!
