4R Autumn Term

English

In English we have been learning about explorers and adventurers using our book 'Great Adventurers' by Alistair Humphreys. We have thought imagined and dramatised adventures that we might go on when we are older, and are now writing a fictional report about our adventures!

Cornets

Although we have only had 2 lessons so far, we are loving learning our new skill for life! We can already play 2 notes, C and D, and have played 2 songs together as a class! Mrs Rhodes thinks we sound brilliant!

Science

We have been grouping and classifying animals using our knowledge of features of vertebrates and invertebrates. By using closed questions we were able to build classification keys to help us in this.

Geography

We have been comparing the countries of Italy and the UK, looking at physical and human features, climate and location. We even realised that the Romans were called the Romans because they came from Rome!

Vision Launch

We launched our new school vision, focusing on our bible context which is the parable of the mustard seed - Mark 4:30-32. We talked about what Jesus meant by the parable and how this is still relevant in our lives today. We also talked about how this links to our vision statement and our Year 4 focus word 'Thrive'. We even planted our own mustard seeds which we took home and are hoping will 'thrive' with our love and care.

Mental Health Awareness Day

To raise awareness of mental health, we came to school dressed in yellow and brought a £1 donation to MIND. We thought about strategies we could use to support our mental health and ways to make ourselves and others happy.

History

In history we are finding out about the Romans! We had a fantastic workshop with a Roman Centurion, telling us all about life as a Roman soldier and made games and oil lamps from clay! We can't wait to find out more!

Mr Tumnus tea party

In English, we read the classic story The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by CSLewis. We wrote a dialogue between Lucy and Mr Tumnus and planned atea party to share our writing with our families. We investigated and made shortbread biscuits in DT to share, and had a really exciting afternoon!

Christingle

Our Christingle service at Holy Trinity was really special. After making our Christingles in school, we went to the church where Reverand Jim delivered a service for us. We sang some of our favourite Christmas songs and really understood the meaning of the Christingle. We turned the lights out at the end - it was incredible.
