4R Summer Term

English

We have been really enjoying our fantastic class novel, The Last Bear by Hannah Gold. We were really inspired by it and sad to learn of the plight of the polar bear. We wrote non-chronological reports about endangered animals, including the polar bear, and were able to publish these to make them look amazing!

History

We have been learning about the history of Haworth as part of Bradford City of Culture 2025. We found out that Haworth began in Anglo-Saxon times, and the name Haworth comes from the Anglo-Saxon words 'Haga' meaning enclosure and 'Worth' which meant fenced land. Haworth really expanded during the industrial revolution with the introduction of the mills and railway.

May Day

We enjoyed a brilliant May Day celebration this year, where we came in non-uniform and brought our scooters and bikes which we had decorated in the colours of the Union Jack. We learnt about our British values and our rights and responsibilities. In the afternoon, we all took part in a parade which was great fun!

Sports Day

What a fantastic time we had at sports day! The sun was shining, there were lots of races and having our parents and carers there made it extra special! As always, we mixed competition with supporting our friends and were a credit to ourselves!

Art

We used chalks to draw 3d objects on big paper and the floor outside our classroom! We looked carefully at the shapes and made big arm movements to draw! We also made shadow art, thinking about words that could describe us in 4R!

French cafe

We have been learning about French food and drink and how to order in a French cafe. We decided to invite our parents and carers to a French cafe in our classroom! We made French menus and had a French 'script' so parents could join in with ordering in French. There were lots of delicious things to choose from and everyone had a great time! Tres bien!

Fundraising

After reading The Last Bear, we felt we wanted to do something to support the growing problems with environmental issues. We decided to hold a fundraising event to raise money fror endangered animals as it something we are passionate about in 4R. We held a bun sale and teddy raffle after school. Our parents were brilliant and baked and donated so many wonderful buns and cakes. It was an amazing experience running the stalls, and we raised an incredible amount of money to support these very worthy causes. Thank you to everyone who came to support us.
