Dear Parents/Carers,
It is a real honour and privilege to introduce myself as Headteacher at Idle CE Primary School. I am extremely excited and humbled to get to know you, our parents and carers, and your wonderful children. During my transitional start this half term, I have had the opportunity to meet many of you but since I formally start my role on Monday 1st June, I wanted to take the chance to share a bit more about myself and my vision for the school.
I am fully aware that Idle CE Primary has been through a period of instability and I want to acknowledge the challenges you, as parents and carers, and your children have faced. I am committed to working together with you, our dedicated staff and the wider community to ensure a brighter, more stable future for our school. Communication and collaboration will be at the heart of everything I do and I will always strive to ensure you feel informed and involved as we move forward.
On a personal note, I have always lived in Leeds and am a huge Leeds United fan – I hope this isn’t too disappointing for many of you! Sport has always played an integral part in my life. During primary school, I played for Leeds United girls before discovering a love of lacrosse, where I went on to represent my county and country.
In addition to my love of sport, music has always been a significant part of my life. I was awarded a Chapel Choir scholarship for a prestigious secondary school, where I had the opportunity to sing in various churches and venues across Europe. I went on to study music at university for three years before completing my teacher training. I am eager to expand the extra-curricular musical and sporting activities across the school to further support the personal development of our children –
something that is a core value for me.
Before joining Idle, I was at Robin Hood Primary School, in Leeds, for 10 years, where I held a variety of leadership roles, from Key Stage Leader to Assistant Headteacher to Head of School. Over the years, I am extremely proud of the community and school we built together at Robin Hood, as well as the quality of education we provided to all our children. I am excited to do the same for Idle. I am passionate about ensuring our children have the very best educational opportunities through a well-designed, inclusive curriculum with a breadth of experiences on offer. I have undertaken various curriculum consultancy work across the Leeds authority and I am keen to work with subject leaders and senior leaders at Idle to ensure we have the very best offer.
Furthermore, I believe it is vital that Idle becomes ever more integrated into our church and local community, fostering a culture of collaboration built on respect and togetherness. I plan to introduce an exciting calendar of social events aimed at bringing our community together. The autumn term’s calendar will be shared with parents and carers before we break up for the summer holidays, and I look forward to meeting you at these events.
As with any Headteacher appointment, various areas of the school will evolve, all aimed at improving and excelling in our school. I am confident that any changes made will positively impact our children and provide them with the best educational opportunities. My goal is to create a supportive school community: a place that feels happy, safe and somewhere that makes our community proud.
I am a firm believer in building positive parental relationships, and as such, we will be hosting an informal coffee morning on Thursday 18th June at 9:15am in the school hall for all parents/carers. This will be a great opportunity to meet me and other parents/carers over a cup of tea and a slice of cake!
In the meantime, please do come and say hello and introduce yourself at drop-off and pick-up, where I plan to be each day.
On behalf of all at Idle, I would like to express our gratitude for your ongoing support. I am truly excited to lead our community of children, parents and carers, governors and staff on this exciting journey ahead.
Kind regards
Mrs Emily Hobson
