3M Summer Term

Summer 1

Hand to Mouth Visit

Year 3 have been very lucky to have Hand to Mouth come to visit us this half term.

They have explored different parts of the world, the people in it and how we can have a positive impact on our earth.

They looked at photographs of people around the world, investigated fair trade/rainforest alliance products, reflected on healthcare, created a prayer paper chain, wrote prayers and discussed reflections about freedom.

FLOURISH

As a school through worship we have been exploring what we need to flourish. As part of this we have identified fun as a key ingredient to our success. Her are just a few of the things we find fun at Idle CE Primary!

Benny ‘Thinking about what future lessons we may have?’

Maja/Betsy ‘Special Days like World Book Day’ or ‘May Day’

Lola ‘My teachers.’

Caleb ‘Class Bead Treats’

Penny ‘Announcing the Rocking Writers!’

Olivia ‘ I like learning about RE, French and PSHE’.

Aria ‘Going to school discos.’

Ottilie ‘Going on school trips’

Archie ‘Sports Day.’

May Day Celebrations

We had a fantastic day during our May Day celebrations. We learnt all about some of the traditions of May Day, we linked our learning to British Values and finished off the day with an epic parade!

Outdoor Learning

In art we have been looking at negative and positive shapes. We sketched out the trim trail and highlighted the negative shapes. In geography we are looking at human and physical features. We explored the school grounds to see what features we could find.

‘It was very fun. I really enjoyed being outside with my friends.’ Lola

‘We had lots of fun being outside.’ Betsy

‘It was nice going out in the sunshine.’ Ezekiel.

‘I really like finding negative spaces.’ Jude

‘It was very relaxing.’ Adam

Year 3 Educational Trip to Flamborough

Year 3 had an amazing trip to the Living Seas Centre at Flamborough! We learnt all about the different features of the coastline and how and why these are changing. We did some erosion experiments on the beach and explored sea life in its natural habit underneath rocks and in the water. We all had an amazing time!

Summer 2

English - Immersion - Greek Myths

In English we have been exploring the features of Greek myths. We really enjoyed acting out the different tasks Heracles, we got very into character! This will hopefully help us remember the tasks for our retell later in the journey!

We did 10 different tasks and it was amazing!’ Sophie
We acted out the tasks with our partners. It was spectacular!’ Ora
Our group really enjoyed it and everyone had fun.’ Olivia
‘I really enjoyed the bit where I was the deer with golden horns.’ Jude

Art – Sculpture

In art we finally got to create our sculptures that we had been designing before the holidays. We used 2D shapes cut out of cardboard and paper to create an abstract 3D sculpture. We used joins such as slots, holes, tabs and balance to put them together (without any tape!)

'I liked that we could use different shapes and sizes to make our sculpture'. Noah

'We used 2D shapes to build a 3D sculpture.' Harry

'I really liked that we could use different joins to create our sculpture, like slotting and balancing.' Jude

'I liked building the classroom as my sculpture.' Reba

'I think everyone enjoyed making sculptures with different shapes.' Olivia.

Sports Day

One of the most exciting days of the year finally arrived for Year 3, Sports Day! Luck was on our side to bring us a beautiful sunny day, which was enjoyed by all. All children took part in something, they all tried their best and preserved when they found things tricky. It was lovely to see so many parents able to come and cheer the children on this brought lots of smiles to children’s faces! A massive thank you to the PTFA for their hard word selling drinks and providing the children with delicious ice pops for all their hard work!

Class Bead Treat

The children have been working really hard in the summer term and had managed to earn a class bead treat. After lots of voting on, outdoor sports themed treat was decided upon. We were in luck with another beautifully sunny day! We played mixed gender football, had a chill out space, played games and scavenger hunts all of which was then topped with biscuits and ice pops. What a great afternoon we had!

FLOURISH - Happiness

This week we have been looking at the H in flourish, which refers to happiness. We have been exploring ways we can spread happiness to help others to flourish. We even had some brave volunteers supporting in phase worship. Well done to Bestsy , Noah, Aria and Ezekiel. Some ideas we had to spread happiness were;

Jake – ‘To smile!’

Aria – ‘If someone doesn’t have anyone to play with, then play with them.’

Anumta – ‘Show love and kindness.’

Jude – ‘Stand up for others.’

Sophie- ‘Give out compliments.’

Maja – ‘To help someone with a question if they are stuck with it.’

Olivia – ‘If someone falls help them up.’

Mrs Metcalf tried to spread some happiness by having positive music, on and giving out stickers for smiles. All the children then tried to pass this happiness on by passing out stickers and smiles at lunch time.

‘I gave my sticker to someone from year 4 and that made them feel awesome which they are.’ Benny

‘I gave mine to someone in year 1 and that made her feel happy’ Reba

‘I gave mine to someone’s brother and that made him feel happy.’ Ottilie

‘I gave mine someone in year 1 because they had just made a really good picture. The sticker made them feel really proud.’ Penny

‘I gave mine to my brother and it made him feel really excited.’ Noah
