6W Autumn Term

Maths

This Term in Maths we have been learning about place value and factors, prime numbers and squared and cubed numbers. We have worked to improve our reasoning and problem solving skills by attacking problems daily aswell as having an additional challenge question to develop our deeper thinking skills. This week, we have begun problem solving using multiplication.

Reading

In Reading we have been attacking short fiction and non-fiction texts. We have identified new and interesting vocabulary, practised out retrieval skills and used clues from the text together with our wider experience to infer. In addition we have practised SAT style questions including find and copy, true and false and sequencing.

Writing

In writing we have immersed ourselves in Skellig, a novel by author David Almond, to write a character description, a diary extract and a persuasive advert. This week, we have embraced writing Remembrance Poetry as part of National Poetry week. We joined a live stream with poet Tomfoolery and used his remembrance poem as a stimulus for our own poems. We performed our poems in class to share our ideas and to develop our performance skills.
