RS Summer Term

Bud

This week we got a plant named Bud! We read a story all about him and how he grows up into a flower from being a little tiny bud.

We looked at planting and how to plant a seed. We planted some seeds as a class, sunflowers, beans and cress. We discussed all the things that a plant needs to grow.  We have each planted a sunflower seed to look after and grow into a sunflower!

We have been enjoying painting pictures of flowers using watercolours, and labelling the parts of a plant.

First Fabulous Facts- Bodies

We started the week by drawing round someone in our classes and labelling all the different parts of their bodies! We talked about what each part of our bodies helps us with.

Over the week read some of the fact book, to find out about our senses and about our skeleton and our organs.

We chose some of our favourite facts to write in factfiles about bodies.

We talked about who can help us to look after our bodies, especially if they are hurt or not working properly. We looked at doctors, nurses and paramedics and what their jobs are.

We have been talking this week about how to keep our bodies healthy. We discussed eating healthily and listed foods that were healthy and unhealthy. We also talked about doing exercise and sleep, and washing and brushing!

Oliver’s Vegetables

This week, we read Oliver’s vegetables and spoke about how different vegetables grow.  We spoke about why it is important to eat fruit and
vegetables before making a list of ingredients needed to make a vegetable pasta salad.

After writing our list of ingredients, we
researched, found and read a recipe to help us make the pasta salad.  We followed the recipe as we made our food.

We spoke about how to hold and use the knife safely and practiced our cutting skills. After we wrote instructions for others on how to make our pasta salad.

Music

In music this half term we have done lots of exploring musical instruments. We have discussed the different sounds instruments make and what we can use them for. We have been using our instruments to play along with the beat of the song.

R.E

This half term we really enjoyed learning about special places. We talked about special items we would find in a church. We looked at pictures of a mosque which is a special place to Muslims. We also talked about other special place, such as our houses, parks, holidays, and all the beautiful places in the world that god has made. We visited Holy Trinity Church and Reverend Jim told us about some of the special things in the church, such as the windows that tell stories, as well as showing us what happens in a baptism.

Balance Ability Bikes

We got to have 3 sessions of balance bikes sessions with Chris!

He helped us to balance really well on our bikes, and taught us tricks like the aeroplane to help with this!

We had lots of fun in our sessions learnign how to be safe on our bikes!

Maths

In maths, we have been learning about numbers from 10 to 20, practising counting forward and backwards and learning that the 1 in each of these numbers mean 10.

We have practically explored adding and subtracting within 10, to find out how many we have now. We used the language first, then, now to do this.

We then looked again at shapes and how we can fit them together to make pictures, learning how to rotate shapes to make them fit!

Whatever Next

Our first story is all about space! Baby bear goes to the moon, but it's a bit boring so they have a picnic!

We are writing our own adventure story, where we go somewhere in a cardboard box!

We have talked about the moon, space and all the planets, each sharing facts that we know with the class and looking at non fiction bookd too. We have learnt about Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon!

We have had show and tell of our own space toys, and learnt a lot about how rockets work!

In provision we have been making rockets in the creative and constructions areas, writing and drawing facts about space.
