Our first week at school.
Year 1 have had an amazing start to year 1.
Our class shared our all about me bags. It has been so lovely to get to know all the children and to share their interests.
ART - portraits.
In art we did our own portraits inspired by Renata Bernal. You can find our amazing pieces of art in the link.
Here we are drawing them.

Week 2:
Science
In science we learned about our bodies and what different parts of our bodies are called. Here we are doing some hands on learning by labelling our friends in class.

Week 3:
In English, we have been learning about what it means to be 'me'. Our class book is called This is Me by George Webster. We loved finding out about the Author's life.
This inspired us to write our own All about me posters. We worked on learning what a sentence includes. We made sure we used capital letters and fulls stops.
Miss Ilyes made it tricky for us by cutting up the sentences and we had to put them in the right order.

Week 4:
In maths we have been learning about place value. We focused on recognising numbers as words this week. To help us do this we have read some books (One fox by Kate Read) and done lots of singing. We worked together to solve a matching task in pairs.
Here we are exploring how to solve problems and how to read numbers as words.

Week 5:
This week, we have been exploring geography. In particular where we live. We used atalses to pin point where the UK is. Then we talked about which countires make up the UK and the surrounding seas and oceans. After this we zoomed in further to find where Bradford is. We enjoyed looking at the atlases and we have got really good at using them.

Science - exploring senses - touch
In science this week, we have been exploring touch. Miss Ilyes got out a feely bag. She asked us to put our hands in and describe what we could feel inside. We had to use scienctific vocabulary like rough and smooth. Hard and soft. Here we are exploring the items.

This week, we have looked at our new class novel. It is called Katie in London. We made some predictions about what the book could be about. We did this by reading the blurb and looking at some props. Here we are looking at some interesting objects that gave us some clues about the story.
