PE
Our PE days are Wednesday and Friday. Children should come to school dressed in appropriate PE kit. We will endeavor to teach PE outdoors, weather permitting, so children may come to school in black sports shoes or trainers. They do not need to bring an additional change of clothes, but should have a pair or pumps or indoor shoes in school, which will be kept in their lockers.
Uniform
Please refer to the school's uniform policy on the website for the expectations for uniform at Idle C of E. Please not pupils should only wear plain, flat, black shoes or trainers inside of school.
Water bottles
It is very beneficial for pupils to stay hydrated and enables them to stay healthy and learn effectively, so children should bring a clearly labelled water bottle to school daily. Children should arrive with their water bottled filled up and are able to refill these throughout the day.
Reading
At Idle C of E we love reading and are passionate that all pupils are able to leave Idle C of E being successful readers, Reading is an essential part of learning and development and we therefore encourage you to read as often as you possibly can with your child, this can be you to them or them to you, as a family or them to a younger - or older - sibling! Children in Year 3 will be provided with a reading book, appropriate to their reading age. Where possible, we ask that:
- Pupils read at home at least 3 times a week to improve fluency
- Parents/carers record home reading in their reading record.
- Return books on a Wednesday, to be changed.
Pupils will also visit the school library and have the opportunity to select 2 library books at the beginning of each half term. Please return these library books on the Monday of the final week, in each half term, as pupils will have the opportunity to exchange these.
Spellings and homework
We are continuing to work on our spelling honeycombs. Pupils will bring home a new set of honeycombs, once every three weeks. Please encourage your child to practice these spellings, in their 'Home Spelling book.' They will be tested on these every three weeks and a new set of spellings will be sent home.
Timetables are an essential part of the Year 3 Mathematics curriculum. Children previously learned the 2,5 and 10x tables in Year 2, this year they will extend their knowledge of other x tables. Please support your child in learning these, they will be provided access to 'Times Table Rock Stars,' which we encourage them to access weekly at home.
Wider Curriculum
This Year, pupils will study The Industrial Revolution, Ancient Greeks, Coastlines and many other exciting topics. Although no formal homework will be set on these topics, we would love to receive some home projects throughout the year.
Recorders
We are very lucky to have the opportunity in Year 3 to learn how to play the recorder. Lessons will be every Monday and children will need to bring their own recorder on this day every week. They may bring their recorders home for extra practice, or leave these in school, in their tray! Recorders can be borrowed from school on request.
