5N Autumn Term 2

Maths

In Year 5 Maths, we will be focusing on building strong foundations in multiplication and division, helping pupils develop efficient strategies for solving problems with larger numbers. Alongside this, we will explore fractions in depth, including understanding equivalent fractions, comparing and ordering them, and performing calculations involving addition, subtraction of fractions.

Reading

In Year 5 Reading, we will be exploring the exciting historical adventure Secrets of the Sun King by Emma Carroll. We will also explore a rance of texts so pupils will develop key comprehension skills, including reasoning and inference, as they learn to read between the lines, interpret characters’ motives, and understand deeper themes within the story. These skills will help children become thoughtful, analytical readers who can engage with a wide range of texts.

English - Writing

In Year 5 Writing, pupils will take on exciting creative challenges. They will write a diary entry from the perspective of Howard Carter, capturing the thoughts and emotions of the famous archaeologist during his discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb. Later in the term, they will craft a narrative inspired by A Boy Called Christmas by Matt Haig, developing rich descriptions, imaginative plots, and strong character voices. These tasks will help pupils refine their ability to write in different styles and for varied purposes.
