5M

Welcome to 5M!

Our class is a happy and exciting place to be. We treat everyone with kindness and respect, we love learning and we always have fun.

Different faiths and cultures are represented in our class, which means that we can all learn from each other.

In Year 5, we learn how to be leaders and later this term, we will have Play Leader and Reading Buddy training to support children in during KS1 lunchtimes. We are also looking forward to starting the Archbishop of York's Young Leaders Award.

Our favourite subject is reading, especially our current class novel ‘Secrets of a Sun King’. We are also a class that is very passionate about sport, especially football, cricket and horse riding.

Make sure you have a look at what we have been learning on our Autumn Term page.

Important information

PE days this year are Wednesdays and Fridays. Children should come to school dressed in their PE uniform and trainers suitable for outdoor sporting activities. Please remember to leave earrings at home on these days, particularly if your child can't remove them by themselves. If earrings can't be removed, please provide plasters to cover them.

Our class will have swimming lessons later in the school year.

Please make sure your child has a filled water bottle every day, particularly on PE days.

Homework

Maths - Must Haves will be set half-termly, with a focus on Key Learning for Year 5.

Reading - children should read aloud at least four times a week (preferably daily) for a minimum of 10 minutes. Please record reading in Reading Records, which should be brought to school daily. Children change their own books from the 100 Recommended Reads selection when they have finished.

Spellings - will be set via the Idle Spelling Bee. Honeycombs will sent home and tested every three weeks in conjunction with our English Learning Journey. Please encourage your child to learn these spellings as they are Year 5/6 Statutory words.

Pupil Roles

Pupil roles in school give children the opportunity to have their say in the running of our school. School Councillors are democratically voted by their class to represent them and help our Senior Leadership Team with making important decisions about our school.

French Ambassador - Shahwaiz

We also have monitors to carry out class jobs including Lunch Trolley Monitors, Book Monitors and Chief Spider Catcher.
